What is Global Communication?

Not a lot of people are aware about the global communication field. Global communication is like Wi-Fi: when it is strong, everyone is connected. But when it is weak, things can get lost in translation. The field of global communication focuses on the study and practice of how knowledge is exchanged and understood across different countries, cultures, and languages. It is related to various forms of media, including digital, print, broadcast, and social media. Global communication is very needed in areas like business, international relations, cultural exchange, and social movements, as it enables collaboration and understanding across world. In today’s world, global communication is used for economic development, social and cultural understanding, and addressing the global challenges that impact us all. 


What is English for Global Communication?

English for Global Communication (EGC) is a four-year degree programme in University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS). This programme equips students with the knowledge, competence, and awareness to use English as a useful tool of communication in a globalised world. This programme equips students to be knowledgeable and proficient in English language for various communicative needs in local and global settings. Overall, this programme prepares students to be professional communicators in English language and global communication.

Muhamad Faiz Iqbal bin Alias is a second-year student in the English for Global Communication Programme at University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS), with a CGPA of 3.82 and two Dean’s List awards. He previously completed the Foundation in Physical Sciences Programme at the Centre for Pre-University Studies at UNIMAS. Faiz is passionate about corporate communication and aims to build a successful career in the oil and gas industry. With his strong academic background and leadership skills, he is focused on developing the communication expertise needed to thrive in a global business environment. Faiz actively participates in university activities, further strengthening his skills and network for future career success.

Muhammad Akhmal Rizal bin Amran is an English major undergraduate at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, pursuing a degree in English for Global Communication. Passionate about teaching, he graduated with a 3.53 CGPA in TESL Foundation from UiTM Dengkil in 2023. Recognized for his academic excellence, he earned a Dean’s List Award with a 3.69 GPA in his first semester. Known for his strong communication skills and dedication, Akhmal is a very committed student trying to foster global connections through education within his expertise. His vision as an educator is to inspire and unite people worldwide by promoting language learning and cultural understanding.


Mohamad Hafifi bin Mohd Fauzi is an insightful and creative student majoring in English for global communication. Having a creative streak, he incorporates this into all of his projects, always managing to come up with new perspectives. The ability to link ideas and communicate brilliantly really sets Hafifi apart, making his input not only enjoyable but also very valuable. As a student, he is committed to the subtleties of language and how it is used in an attempt to shrink cultural divides.
